History and Mission of the Department Romanian Linguistics and Literary Science

The Department of Romanian Linguistics and Literary Science (DRLLS) was established in October 2015, as a result of the reorganization of the Faculty of Letters by merging the Departments of Romanian Literature and Literary Theory and Romanian Language, General Linguistics and Classical Languages, and brings together part of the former Faculty of Letters, a faculty with traditions in higher education in the Republic of Moldova, being one of the five faculties that were at the foundation of Moldova State University. Hundreds of teachers, teachers of Romanian language and literature from all over the republic can proudly say that they are graduates of the Faculty of Letters of the State University of Moldova.

The department has always been and remains to be a prestigious center for scientific research in the field of philology here activating dedicated teachers, reference names in the field, known both in the republic and abroad.

Currently, the academic body of the department consists of 21 scientific-teaching staff, of which: 1 university professor; 12 associate professors and 8 lecturers, including 14 doctors and 2 doctors habilitate qualified in philology. It is a consolidated team and it is distinguished by a high intellectual standing, ensuring a favorable climate for qualitative teaching and learning.

DRLLS is harmoniously a part of the structure of the new Faculty of Letters, responding to the current requirements of a developing society by offering young people opportunities for professional training.

DRLLS’s mission is to train teachers for pre-university and university education, researchers in the field of philology, highly qualified specialists competitive in the national and international labor market.

DRLLS has in its management four bachelor’s degree programs:

0114.8/0114.10 Romanian Language and Literature and English (full time)

0114.8/0114.10 Romanian Language and Literature (full time),

a Master’s degree program – Romanian Language, Literature and Civilization (120 cr)  and the Doctoral School of Linguistic and Literary Studies.

The members of DRLLS also ensure the teaching of the subject Communication Techniques in Romanian at other faculties.

Within Moldova State University, DRLLS is the nucleus that ensures the capitalization and valorization of the national patrimony, the continuity and development of our cultural traditions, as well as their inscription in the circuit of European values. DRLLS is also a landmark of cultural life. Meetings with writers, literary critics take place here, creative workshops are organized.

VARZARI Elena, PhD in philology, Associate Professor, specialist in Latin and Romanian, teaches subjects: Latin Lexis and Grammar, Historical Grammar, Syntax of Romanian Language, Introduction in Research Technique, Didactics of Romanian Language and Literature, etc.

ARSENI-BOICENCO Angela, Lecturer, teaches Communication Techniques in the Romanian Language.

BANARI Elena, Lecturer, teaches the course Communication Techniques in the Romanian Language.

CEMÂRTAN Claudia, PhD in philology, Associate Professor, specialist in Latin, teaches subjects: Latin Language and Culture, History of Romanian Language, Lexical Semantics.

CONDREA Iraida, Doctor Habilitate in philology, University Professor, Director of Doctoral School Linguistics and Literary Studies, specialist in Romanian Sociolinguistics, also teaches Semiotics of Proper Name in Literary Work, etc.

DODON Eugenia, PhD in philology, Associate Professor, teaches Syntax of Romanian Language and Problems of Grammatical Analysis.

DOLGAN-CHITOROAGĂ Liliana, Lecturer, teaches Communication Techniques in the Romanian Language.

FONARI Victoria, PhD in philology, Associate Professor, teaches subjects: Romanian Postwar Literature, Comparative Romanian Literature, Pedagogical Ethics, Professional Ethics and Tradition, Experiment and Innovation in Interwar Romanian Literature.

GABURA Carolina, Lecturer, teaches courses Romanian Interwar Literature, Narratology, Romanian Modern and Avant-garde Poetry.

GALBEN Raisa, PhD in philology, Associate Professor, teaches Introduction in Linguistics and Communication Techniques in the Romanian Language.

GHERASIM Alexandra, PhD in philology, Associate Professor, concerned with theory of discourse and the study of text, teaches also Morphology of Romanian Language.

GURĂU Larisa, PhD in philology, Associate Professor, teaches courses: Phonetics and Orthography of Romanian Language, Practical Course on Romanian, Text Proofreading in Romanian.
