The Department of World and Comparative Literature and Russian Philology (DLUCFR) was created in 2023 as a result of the merger of the Didactic Scientific Centre of World and Comparative Literature and the Didactic-Scientific Centre of Russian Philology, being one of the subdivisions of the Faculty of Letters of the Moldova State University. The Department provides the teaching of fundamental courses of world literature and national literatures within the study programs of the specialized departments at the first cycle – bachelor and second cycle – master, thus contributing to the training of highly qualified specialists in the field of educational sciences and translation studies. The courses of world literature are taught in Romanian and Russian, and the courses of national literatures – in the according European languages (English, French, German, Spanish).  

The Department also manages bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Russian philology, training highly qualified specialists in the field of Russian language and literature. Graduates of the Faculty of Letters, specializing in Russian philology, are employed in educational institutions, scientific journals, periodicals, museums, libraries, publishing houses, radio and television stations.  

A priority objective of the Department is to expand and strengthen existing national and international partnerships and collaborations, including: Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, „A. Russo” University of Balti, The Romanian Cultural Institute Chisinau, Moldova-Institute Leipzig, Institute of Romance Studies of the University of Leipzig, Institute of Romance Studies of the University of Vienna, Institute of Romance Studies of the Humboldt University of Berlin, University of Sibiu, University „A. I. Cuza” of Iasi, the National Library of Moldova, the Union of Writers of Moldova, the House-Museum „Alexandr Pushkin”, the Library „B.P. Hasdeu”, the Library „Lomonosov”, etc. 

The scientific and teaching staff of the Department of World and Comparative Literature and Russian Philology consists of 2 PhD professors, 11 PhDs in philology (including 10 associate professors), 7 assistants.
