The Department of English and French Languages for Specific Purposes is created following the departmentalization of the faculty. It was founded on the basis of the Chair of the English Language, established in 1997 by dividing the Chair of the Germanic Languages into the Chair of the English Language and the Chair of German Philology, and the department of the French Language at other faculties of the former Chair of the French Language in 2014, respectively. The head of the department is Pascaru Daniela, PhD, Lecturer.

The basic objectives of the department are focused on:

• teaching English at the Faculty of Modern Languages;
• teaching English and French at non-philological specialties within Moldova State University (Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of History and Psychology, Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Faculty of Pedagogy, Journalism and Communication Sciences, Faculty of Biology and Pedology, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Physics);
• teaching English and French at part-time faculties within Moldova State University.

The main objective of teaching English and French is training communicative, cultural, professional and sociolinguistic skills. In accordance with this objective, the entire activity of the department is based on two main directions:1.      training philological students to teach English;2.      preparing non-philological students for written and oral communication on common and specialized topics.The Department of Specialized English and French Languages is responsible for holding the exam for awarding the certificate of the English language proficiency level of B2, C1, C2 to lecturers at “N. Testemiteanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The department prepares doctoral students from different specialties to take the doctoral exam in English and French.The academic staff from the Department of English and French Languages for Specific Purposes has the mission based on an enormous responsibility for the instructive-educational and didactic-methodical training of the specialists who will teach English and French as a foreign language, ensuring the level the instructive-educational process of the young generation in the field of English and French at a high level.
